Bolton Sign Smolarek On Loan, Stoke Sign Sonko, Blackburn Want Recoba

August 31, 2008

Bolton Wanderers have signed three-times Polish player of the year Ebi Smolarek on a season long loan from Racing Santander, with an option to purchase the player at the end of the deal. Smolarek is a 27 year old Polish international striker, having played 34 times for his country, although he failed to score at Euro 2008.

A few hours ago Stoke City greatly strengthened the defensive department of their team with the £2million+ signing of Reading’s Senegalese international Ibrahima Sonko. Sonko will no-doubt be looking forward to playing Premiership football once again at the Britannia Stadium.

Blackburn Rovers have targetted free-agent Alvaro Recoba, who has recently been released by Serie A giants Inter Milan. Recoba had been struggling in recent seasons with injuries and poor form, although it would still be a real coup for Paul Ince if he could bring the exciting Uruguayan forward to Blackburn Rovers.
