Nacional and Leixoes lead in Portugal
October 27, 2008
LISBON (SW) – Nacional Funchal and Leixoes Matosinhos are the new leaders in the Portuguese Liga Sagres. Nacional were too strong for Vitoria Setubal and Leixoes beat previous leaders FC Porto on Saturday.
Nacional needed only one goal to make a difference against Vitoria on Sunday, with Nene netting the winner on 77 minutes.
The top clash of the week was played a day earlier with FC Porto hosting Leixoes. The visiting side needed only three minutes to take the lead through Bruno China, and Braga doubled the advantage near the half hour mark.
Lucho Gonzalez (penalty) and Lisandro Lopez then led Porto to 2-2 but the away side had the final say with Braga scoring his second of the night to earn his team a 2-3 victory.
Nacional and Leixoes both have thirteen points from six games, and Benfica follow in third place with twelve points. Estrela Amadora could still join the two leaders at the top when they travel to Sporting Braga on Monday.
