November 4, 2008

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – Fabien Vorbe scored a pair of goals and led Haiti to a 2:0 victory over Grenada on Sunday, sending it to the final round of Caribbean qualifying for the CONCACAF U-20 Championship.

Vorbe, a key member of the Haiti side that qualified for its first U-17 World Cup in the Korea Republic in 2007, also scored in Haiti’s 2:0 victory over the Dominican Republic on Friday. The results assured Haiti of finishing atop second-round qualifying Group F with six points and earning a place in the final round in January.

Haiti went ahead in the sixth minute on Vorbe’s first goal and then consolidated the advantage with another goal by Vorbe five minutes into the second half.

Haiti joins St. Vincent & the Grenadines, which advanced from Group G. One group has yet to be determined, Group H, which includes Antigua & Barbuda, Jamaica and host Aruba and will be staged later this month.

The three group winners will be joined by the best runner-up. The Dominican Republic beat Grenada 5:0 on Monday afternoon to finish second in Group F and a possible berth in the finals.

The winner of the final round will automatically qualify for next year’s CONCACAF U-20 Championship while the runner-up will face Honduras for another berth.
