Milan fans protest about shameless treatment

December 17, 2008

ROME (AFP) – AC Milan fans staged a protest against their own club during Wednesday’s meaningless UEFA Cup tie at home to VfL Wolfsburg at the San Siro.

The stadium was practically empty with few fans other than the 1,600 travelling German supporters. Both clubs have already qualified for the competition’s knock-out rounds.

Milan’s own tifosi were protesting against the number of tickets available to them during Sunday’s vital clash at Juventus’s Stadio Olimpico in Turin — a match Milan lost 4-2 to damage their title hopes.

The club’s hardcore fans, who usually occupy the South stand at one end of the stadium, left it completely deserted with nothing but banners blasting Milan’s bosses.

"Shameful!" said one while another explained more: "You imposed the ‘Red and black heart’ card on us (a season ticket) but where were our places in Turin?"

Yet another blamed the lack of places for away fans in Turin for the club’s disastrous defeat. "We’re always at your side but in Turin you showed how much you missed us."

Fans did file in after kick-off to watch the game from the tunnel entrances to the stands, but still would not take up their usual positions in the stands.
