Drogba absent again as Scolari wields the axe
January 17, 2009
LONDON (AFP) – Didier Drogba was absent from Chelsea’s squad for their Premier League clash against Stoke on Saturday as Blues boss Luiz Felipe Scolari gets tough with the Ivory Coast striker.
Scolari had axed Drogba for Chelsea’s midweek FA Cup win over Southend after his lacklustre display in last weekened’s defeat at Manchester United.
The Brazilian demanded more effort from his players in his Friday press conference and insisted anyone not committed to the club could leave.
Drogba’s future must now be in doubt after Nicolas Anelka was once again handed the main striking role at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, Chelsea and England captain John Terry was ruled out of the Stoke clash after suffering an injury in the pre-match warm-up.
