Quick Report: Real Madrid 0-1 Liverpool
February 26, 2009
Liverpool are close to a spot in the quarter finals of this year’s Champions League, following a 0-1 win at Real Madrid in Bernabeu stadium.
Initially, the best chance of the match was for Liverpool but Fernando Torres failed to take advantage. Later in the second half, Real’s Arjen Robben had a powerful shot parried by keeper Reina.
The deadlock was eventually broken on 82 minutes, slightly against the run of play. Fabio Aurelio took a corner from the right side and Israeli striker Yossi Benayoun headed past Castillas to hand Liverpool an unexpected lead.
Liverpool now only need a draw in the return leg on March 10th, to advance to the next round.
