Kenya´s Oliech reconsiders move back to Qatar
July 4, 2009

NAIROBI (AFP) – Kenyan striker Dennis Oliech is reconsidering his return to Qatar from France where he has failed to make an impression, local media reported on Saturday.
The 24-year-old joined French first division club Nantes on a four-year deal from Al-Arabi in 2005 but was signed on loan with another French side, Auxerre, after Nantes were relegated at the end of the 2006 season.
But Oliech, who has scored only three goals in 16 league appearances for Auxerre this season, returned to the Qatari club last month for a medical and he is set to rejoin them after the two clubs finalise negotiations for his transfer.
“I have to consider my life after football and Al Arabi have offered me a deal which I cannot resist,” Oliech told the Standard newspaper.
“When I joined Nantes in 2003, the possibility of going back to the Gulf after my two-year stint there is too high. They have not been doing well since I left and apparently they appreciate what I did for them,” he added.
“I have a contract at Auxerre until 2010 and can stay if I want. The lack of goals (at Auxerre) is because I am being played on the wing and it becomes difficult to score with two strikers ahead of you. The system of play is totally different compared to when I play with the national team.”
Oliech has also struggled to hit the back of the net with ‘Harambee Stars’ (Kenya) in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
He was substituted in the last game against Mozambique, which Kenya won 2-1 to register their first victory in the qualifiers after three matches.
