United States overwhelms Cameroon 4-1 at U-20 World Cup
September 30, 2009

Bryan Arguez scored just before halftime and Tony Taylor just after to send the United States to a 4-1 victory over Cameroon on Tuesday and back into quarterfinal contention at the Under-20 World Cup.
Dilly Duka and Brian Ownby added second-half goals for the Americans, who climbed into second place in Group C with three points, one behind Germany just ahead of Cameroon on goal difference. The United States faces Korea Republic, which is last in the group with one point, on Friday in its final group match.
Arguez’s goal came after little else was produced by either team in the first half, the best opportunity coming in the 33rd minute when Taylor shot a loose ball in the area well over the bar. However he figured in the first goal in the second minute of injury time, following a header by Ike Opara that Cameroon keeper Francois Beyokol palmed away at the right post, recovering the ball and sending it back into the middle of the area for Arguez.
With less than two minutes elapsed in the second half, Duka was sent in on Beyokol alone before sliding the ball across the area for a paralleling Taylor, who finishing into an empty net from 10 meters.
Cameroon pushed more players forward, making it vulnerable to the counter, which Duka exploited in the 67th minute. Racing near the left touchline, the Rutgers University midfielder saw Beyokol off his line and launched an arcing left-footer that cleared the goalkeeper and settled in the far-side netting.
The Indomitable Lions were able to gather some hope when Banana Yaya converted a penalty in the 75th after Opara was called for tug on the jersey of Brice Owona.
But second-half substitute Brian Ownby completed the scoring in injury time, running onto a pass at midfield and outracing the defense to finish with a low right-footer inside the far post.
