Spurs downplay Riesgo link

Primera Division side Real Sociedad have confirmed that they have had no contact with Tottenham Hotspur over Asier Riesgo.

The highly-rated goalkeeper spent time on trial with Spurs earlier this month with a view to a January switch to White Hart Lane.

Riesgo, 26, enjoyed his stint in North London and was hoping to seal a move.

But Sociedad club sources have confirmed that no deal is in place.

“After the trial we were expecting some movement from Spurs, but as of today we have not received a call about the subject,” a club source told skysports.com.

Riesgo, who is out of contract in the summer, was being considered by Spurs boss Harry Redknapp as he looked at bringing in a new keeper in January following Carlo Cudicini’s motorcycle accident earlier this year.

However, it now appears that Spurs may be looking elsewhere as Riesgo’s agent Eugenio Botas is also yet to hear back from Redknapp.

Sociedad have already told Riesgo he can leave the club in January as he is not in their plans.
