Anderlecht beat Brugge in Belgian classic

February 4, 2010

RSC Anderlecht took a big step in the direction of the Belgian league trophy following a vital 3-2 win over nearest rivals Club Brugge on Wednesday.

It was a highly eventful match at Brussel’s Constant Vanden Stock stadium, a game that was meant to be played in December but was postponed due to bad pitch conditions.

Anderlecht took the lead through Roland Juhasz in the fifth minute, but Brugge’s Vadis Odjidja Ofoe equalised in the 17th and Dorge Kouemaha even put the visiting side ahead ten minutes after the interval.

But the home team did not give up and Nicolas Frutos made it 2-2 in the 74th minute, for Mbark Boussoufa to net the winner near the full time whistle.

Brugge substitute Ronald Vargas was sent off with a direct red card inthe 61st minute, just seven minutes after he had come on the pitch.

The win allows Anderlecht to extend their lead from six to nine points.

Anderlecht, Brugge win in Belgium

December 7, 2009

Both leaders Anderlecht and second-placed Club Brugge earned hard-fought away victories in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday.

Anderlecht headed for a comfortable win over Cercle Brugge with goals from Jonathan Legear in the 38th minute and Mbark Boussoufa in the 43rd, but when Oleg Iachtchouk pulled one back for Cercle with ten minutes to go, the Brussels outfit had to stay focused to avoid an equaliser.

Instead, it was Nicolas Frutos to end the away side’s doubt by scoring for 1-3 in the last minute.

Club Brugge secured a narrow win at Lokeren, where former AZ Alkmaar player Ryan Donk scored the only goal after 52 minutes. Lokeren had been a man down since Ibrahima Gueye’s red card in the 34th minute.

Anderlecht maintain their five-points lead over Brugge, who in turn are five points ahead of third-placed Germinal Beerschot.

Brugge and Anderlecht win in Belgium

October 26, 2009

No surprises occurred in Sunday’s two Belgian Pro League games, as both Club Brugge and Anderlecht clinched away victories.

Leaders Club Brugge visited last-placed Roeselare and went ahead through Ivan Perisic in the 37th minute, for Ronald Vargas to add another two minutes later.

A penalty goal from Bjarni Vidarsson gave Roeselare new hope on 52 minutes, but Dorge Kouemaha restored the two-goal gap six minutes after the hour. A late goal from Mahamadou Dissa wasn’t enough for Roeselare to threaten Brugge’s lead.

Brugge played most of the second half with a man less, as Michael Klukowski was sent off in minute 51.

RSC Anderlecht earned a 0-2 win at Mechelen. Romelo Lukaku opened the scoring in the 11th minute, and Mbark Boussoufa doubled the advantage three minutes before the hour.

Club Brugge remain in first place with 27 points from 12 games, one point more than second-placed Anderlecht.

Anderlecht beat Standard in Belgian top clash

February 23, 2009

RSC Anderlecht remain on track to win this year’s Belgian title, as the Brussels outfit beat second-placed Standard de Liege 4-2. Club Brugge only managed a draw at Westerlo.

The match between Anderlecht and Standard was a so-called ’six-point-match’ as the winner would be in first place afterwards. Standard had a good start as Wilfried Dalmat opened the score on nine minute but Mbark Boussoufa equalised shortly before the break.

The visitors from Liege restored the lead through Dieumerci Mbokani four minutes after tea-time but again it was Boussoufa to level things, this time on the hour.

Marcin Wasilewski then made it 3-2 in the 66th minute and Tom de Sutter added another in the 74th.

Club Brugge’s title chances are practically zero following a 1-1 draw at Westerlo. Brugge did take the lead through Joseph Akpala in the 40th minute but Emanuel Odita equalised in the 72nd.

Anderlecht now have an advantage of four points over Standard, and Brugge follow at another eight points.
