Van Bommel: ‘Focus on winning, not on contracts’

January 29, 2010

A possible contract extension at Bayern München isn’t on Mark van Bommel’s mind. Last year, the captain of the Bavarian giants signed a deal which expires in June 2010.

“Six players at the club have an expiring contract and I am one of those players. However, nobody should be thinking about contract renewals at the moment,” Van Bommel told Bild.

“We’re in an extremely important part of the season.

“We are fighting for the Bundesliga title, can still win the DFB Pokal and face Fiorentina in the first knockout round of the Champions League. That’s what we should focus on for now.”

32-year-old Van Bommel thinks Bayern is strong enough to compete for every trophy. “I feel like we can go a long way in all competitions.

“Our current selection is the best team we’ve had since I joined Bayern in 2006. We have never been this attack minded and dominant before.”

Danielle Lloyd’s Crown is Stolen!

June 3, 2009

And we’re not talking about the crown of how many ‘ballers she’s dated… No in fact her actual beauty queen crown has been stolen!

Oh dear it’s not been a good couple of months for Danielle Lloyd, first she gets badly attacked on a night out, nearly loses her leg and now it is revealed that the WAG was burgled.

Apparently the model’s house was broken in to last month whilst she was away, £20,000 worth of goods were stolen including her beloved Miss England crown.

A friend said: ‘Her crown’s irreplaceable. It means so much.’

Danielle Lloyd has also spoken out following her attack, she told the News of the World:

‘The last thing I remember is seeing some girls’ face as I passed out. After that I just recall snapshots of what was absolutely the worst night of my life.’

She continues: ‘Obviously, the scars will affect me I’m lucky they’re not on my face. But they make me feel very ugly.

The worst thing at the moment is just being stuck indoors feeling so depressed. I can’t walk, I’m frightened to go out and feel helpless.’

Go on girl milk it, you may as well!!

Danielle Bux Hell’s Kitchen Update!

April 22, 2009

Danielle Bux is still in the kitchen that they call hell and I hate to admit that the WAG is really growing on me. Oh no!!

$imgAlt

I said I was going to keep an open mind and I have, and suprisingly I am really quite liking this WAG.

Danielle seems very down to earth and luckily knows her way around a kitchen. I warmed to her particularly last night when her daughter came to see her, it was very lovely moment and showed that Danielle clearly has a very good relationship with her daughter.

And her interaction with fiance Gary Lineker seemed very genuine too.

I will put my hands up to judging the WAG too quickly, but I still think it’s a bit unfair that she’s on a celebrity show when she obviously isn’t one.

P.s. Did you see Anthea Turner’s reaction to her hubby getting the sack, a little OTT don’t you think??

Gary Neville Shows his Loyalty to Man Utd Through a Hedge!

March 19, 2009

Gary Neville has had a huge hedge cut into the initials ‘MUFC’ outside his mansion to show love for his football club.

Gary Neville And Emma Hadfield - Wedding

The hedge stands outside the front gates of the Man Utd captain’s home in Bolton.

Although the hedge is fairly small at the moment, but when it grows it will be visible on Google Earth for all to see.

We wonder what WAG Emma Neville makes of the hedge tribute?!

Danielle Lloyd Worst Dressed at Seven Pounds Premiere

January 15, 2009

Any starlet who’s trying to remain in the spotlight or is on Dancing on Ice turned up for the Seven Pounds premiere last night and there were some interesting fashion choices.

Most of the girls played it safe wearing different versions of the LBD with tights, which seems to be one of the hottest trends at the moment probably due to the freezing temperatures.

But of course Danielle Lloyd who is a pro at this sort of thing, saw an opportunity to stand out by going red and leggy.

Whilst I admire Danielle for being different and wearing colour, I didn’t feel the outfit worked.

I like the dress and waist belt, very WAG and looks good, but it’s too much with the colourful bag and shoes.

A classic pair of black heels and clutch bag would have been better to let the dress stand out.

What do you think of Danielle’s outfit??

Fortunately for Dani, she wasn’t the only one that got it wrong. Keisha Buchanan from the Sugababes wore an extremely tight body-con dress with shoe boots, which didn’t do much for her figure.

And Roxanne Pallett wore a slightly unflattering black dress, but did have great shoes.

So who was best dressed??

Carlos Bianchi set for Boca return

December 31, 2008

BUENOS AIRES (SW) – Former Boca Juniors manager Carlos Bianchi is expected to return to La Bombonera to become the side’s technical director, the club announced on Wednesday.

Chairman Jorge Amor Ameal, who also took a moment to announce that manager Carlos Ischia extended his contract with one year, confirmed this on Boca’s official website.

Argentinian sides usually don’t appoint a technical director, but Boca plan to break with that tradition: "Our idea is to internationalize our image. And Bianchi is a well known man abroad. He is our ambassador," Ameal said.

Bianchi is one of Boca’s most successful managers, having won four Argentinian league titles, three Copa Libertadores and two Club World Cups with the blue-yellow side.

He also won three domestic titles and a Copa Libertadores with Velez Sarsfield.

Apologetic Fuller says his future in Stoke´s hands

December 31, 2008

LONDON (AFP) – Stoke City striker Ricardo Fuller apologised to the clubs fans Wednesday after being sent-off for slapping his own captain Andy Griffin in the Premier League defeat against West Ham last weekend.

But the Jamaica forward was unsure if his words would be enough to keep him with the Potters, whose 2-1 loss to West Ham last Sunday left them in the relegation zone.

Fuller, who accused Griffin of "disrespecting" him, told Sky Sports on Wednesday: "It (the incident) happened and thats all. Im sorry for the fans especially as we didnt get the three points."

The bizarre flashpoint came just moments after Carlton Cole equaliser for the Hammers at Upton Park as Fuller lost his cool following a row with Griffin over who was responsible for the goal.

"It was just one of them things. It shouldnt have happened. I just simply said to Griff clear the ball out and he was rude and disrespectful. Its all done and dusted now.

"What he said was bad but what I did was worse and Im probably going to be suspended for three or four games now."

Stoke chairman Peter Coates insisted Monday the Potters wanted to keep Fuller but the forward, asked if the clash with Griffin signalled the end of his time at the Britannia Stadium, added: "Who knows? Its up to the club.

"I give my all for Stoke, all the time," said the 29-year-old, who joined from second-tier Ipswich in 2006.

"Maybe I give too much. Maybe thats why I am in this position now because I was trying to do so much for football and for Stoke City because I am a Stoke City player at the moment and thats all I care about – Stoke City, the team and myself," added Fuller, who has scored six goals so far this season.

"Anything that goes, goes, Im okay. Its not a position any football player would like to be in. Its one of them things and Ive just got to get over it. It will go away anyway, its just a matter of time. Time is always the master.

"Im sorry for what happened, especially for the fans who have been great this season. Hopefully, it will never happen again. Its not a position I like to be in. Im so passionate, I love to do football work and I love to do football work for Stoke City. Anyway, its up to the club."

Coates told the clubs official website that Stoke had no plans to offload Fuller during the January transfer window.

"It hasnt entered our heads to sell him," he said. "Were absolutely sure we want to keep him.

"Rics a good player and you dont sell your good players.

"He a big player and an important player, he helped to get us here (the Premier League), and hell stay at the club.

Real Mallorca takeover by Freddy Shepherd still on

December 31, 2008

Real Mallorca are still in talks with former Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd about a possible takeover, the Spanish Primera Liga club said on Wednesday.

“At the moment there is only contact with Freddy Shepherd, the only party formally interested in buying the club,” Mallorca spokesman Hector Romero told Reuters.

Former Mallorca president Vicenc Grande put his 93 percent stake in the club up for sale after his Grupo Drac real estate company filed for insolvency in June.

Grande was replaced this month as president by an associate, Joaquin Garcia, who said he had until the end of January to find a new investor.

Romero said the club would not provide any financial details but a source close to the situation said in June that Mallorca were on sale for around 40 million euros ($56.7 million).

Shepherd, who lives in Mallorca for most of the year, was on holiday until Jan. 10 and unavailable for comment, said an official at Shepherd Offshore in Newcastle.

An outspoken and controversial figure during his spell with the English Premier League club, Shepherd said in late June he was in talks to buy Mallorca, currently struggling one place above the relegation zone in Spain’s top league.

Grande had been close to selling his stake to British businessman Paul Davidson for a reported 38 million euros but the deal fell through in November.

Mallorca shareholders are due to hold their annual meeting on Jan. 30 and Romero said a vote could be held then on a possible takeover.

If no agreement was reached with a buyer, shareholders would have to decide whether Garcia would continue as president or be replaced, he added.

Mallorca said on Tuesday they had signed Israeli goalkeeper Dudu Aouate from Deportivo Coruna as cover for injured first-choice keeper Miguel Angel Moya and Romero said this was proof the club was financially sound.

“It’s clear that the international economic situation makes the functioning of all companies more difficult and our club is no exception,” he said.

“But to meet the contractual rights of players you have to make financially solvent guarantees.”

So, Liverpool fans… Are you starting to believe?

December 29, 2008

Liverpool seem to have got through their sticky patch and continued failures from Chelsea and Arsenal have limited the damage.

After convincing wins over Bolton and Newcastle Liverpool are clear at the top of the table and will stay there going into 2009.

So is it going to be a happy new year for Liverpool fans? I blogged  the other day about (what seems to me) Liverpool’s need for another forward or midfielder with the wow factor but Steven Gerrard seems to be playing that role to perfection just at the moment. Can he carry on in this form until the end of the season?

Liverpool’s biggest problem, of course, is the prospect of Manchester United continuing their ominous rise up the table. United have three games in hand and if they win all three they’ll be within a point of the top.

But still, optimism is creeping in. Here’s how Kai at the Liverpool Offside put it after the Newcastle win:

“And so with Chel$ki held to a 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage, we are 3 points clear heading into 2009!! I’m strangely starting to believe we might just nick it this year.”

redfloyd at Have You Ever Been to Liverpool? sounds more cautious in his report on the game:

“This can only be good for the team’s confidence going into the long home straight. Although we are top we have, with one or two exceptions, achieved this through perspiration rather than inspiration, in short we haven’t really got going. Perhaps the last two games are a first sign of us starting to put our foot on the accelerator? However, it is still a long, long treacherous journey. God speed!”

I think that’s about right, in that this season they have gone top while hardly ever playing really well. If the Newcastle performance is a sign of things to come, who knows?

So what do you think? Can Liverpool stay clear and get that first title since 1990? Or have they just delayed the inevitable slide away from the top two?
