QPR sign Argentinian midfield prospect

LONDON (AFP) – Promising Argentinian midfielder Alejandro Damian became Championship side Queens Park Rangers first signing under manager Jim Magilton on Tuesday as he was snapped up for 3.5million pounds.

The 22-year-old signed a three year contract from second division Argentinian side Instituto conditional on him receiving a work permit.

Faurlin confessed that QPR had been his preferred destination despite receiving other offers from further afield.

“I had opportunities to play in Spain, Italy and Greece, but QPR was my choice and I’m delighted,” said Faurlin.

“I was really impressed with the set-up and the ambition of the club and can’t wait to make my QPR debut.

“I know a lot about the English game and I really admire the ability of the teams at this level.

“I am really looking forward to playing for the club and showing the manager, my fellow players and the QPR supporters what I can do.”

Magilton, who was controversially sacked as manager of Ipswich last season and replaced by Roy Keane, said he thought that Faurlin would have no trouble settling in and making an impression.

“We’ve had a good look at him and I believe he will be a valuable addition to the squad,” said the former Northern Ireland international.

“He’s a likeable young lad who plays with a smile on his face, so we’ll have no problems.”

QPR are also giving a trial to 32-year-old former Republic of Ireland international striker David Connolly.
