Panathinaikos drop points in Greece

November 23, 2009

Panathinaikos failed to take further distance from Olympiakos on Sunday, as the Athens side were held to a 1-1 draw by Asteras Tripolis.

As Olympiakos drew 2-2 with PAS Giannina a day earlier, Panathinaikos knew that a win over Asteras would allow them to extend their lead to four points.

But 61 minutes had been played at the Spyros Louis Olympic Stadium of Athens when Shikoze Udoji put the visiting side in the lead.

An equaliser from Djibril Cisse in the 74th minute did limit the damage, but Panathinaikos failed to find the target a second time.

‘Pana’ remain in the lead with 29 points from 11 games, two points more than Olympiakos.

AEK turn things around against Vaslui

August 28, 2009

AEK Athens turned around last week’s 2-1 defeat, beating Romanian side Vaslui 3-0 in the second leg for a 4-2 aggregate result.

For almost an hour at the Olympiako Stadio Spyros Louis, neither side managed to get the ball past the opposing keeper.

But in the 59th minute, the Greeks finally broke the deadlock through Gustavo Manduca, and by doing so also had the away goal advantage.

To take away all doubts, Ignacio Scocco added goals in the 74th and 79th minute to lead AEK to a 3-0 win in this game.
