Keane to sign more players

July 4, 2009

Ipswich Town manager Roy Keane has revealed that he is looking to sign “four or five” more players for Ipswich, within the next two weeks.

As the current crop of players began pre-season training this week, Keane admitted that two potential signings were virtually agreed and was still hoping to add at least two more ahead of the season’s kick-off on August 8.

He told the Evening Star: “We’ve probably been linked with 50 or 60 players over the last few weeks and it would be unfair of me to talk about players until they’ve signed.”

“I hope, in time, to bring in maybe four or five. We are close with two and there will be hopefully be another two or three over the next two weeks.”

“The fun and games will start over the next few weeks when managers get back to their clubs and take stock of what they’ve got. It’s quite difficult these days with the transfer fees that are mentioned, but if you want quality you’ve got to pay for it.”

Bolstered by Landin, Cruz Azul looks for more CONCACAF glory

February 13, 2009

Cruz Azul just missed a ninth Mexican title in December. A sixth CONCACAF title would be a nice replacement.

La Maquina finished third in the Mexican Primera Division before losing to Toluca on penalty kicks in the Apertura title series, its second consecutive final. It now returns to the CONCACAF Champions League with a quarterfinal against cross-town rival Pumas.

Cruz Azul was in 10th place in the Clausura campaign heading into the fifth round, fourth in Group 2, three points behind leader Chivas. The two played to a wild 3-3 draw on January 17 at Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara to open the season.

A week later, Cruz Azul thrashed Atlas, 4-0, at Estadio Azul with Edgar Lugo scoring a three and Luis Angel Landin adding the final goal. Its lone loss of the new season came January 30, 1-0 at Tecos and but it recovered a week later to with an early goal by Christian Riveros for a 1-1 draw against Tigres.

Cruz Azul’s big off-season signing was Landin, a striker from Morelia. The 23-year-old began his career with Pachuca, scoring 19 goals in 81 appearances. He had seven goals in 48 games with Morelia.

The club was almost dealt a devastating blow when star Gerardo Torrado reportedly was considering signing with Espanyol of the Primera Liga last month. But Cruz Azul convinced the 29-year-old captain to stay on for the remainder of his contract.

“It is convenient for both parties as it means that in six months he would be able to make his dream of playing in Spain come true,” Cruz Azul president Guillermo Alvarez said last month. “Torrado’s wish is understandable and the club will try to back him so in six months he could play in a better team. He will have to think that at the end of June he will be able to sign for any club he wants.”

Cruz Azul was the lone Mexican team to not win its group in the Champions League, finishing three points behind Honduras’ Marathon in Group A and reaching the knockout stage by edging out Costa Rica’s Saprissa on goal difference in their head-to-head meetings.

Javier Orozco, who played only four games for Cruz Azul in the Apertura season and none so far this season, leads all scorers in the Champions League with six goals. The 21-year-old forward has been unable to find time behind Landin and Pablo Zeballos, who has three goals in the Champions League. Cruz Azul has already qualified for the 2009 Champions League by advancing to last season’s Apertura final against Toluca.

Cheryl Cole is too Famous to Push her own Trolley

February 13, 2009

After a short stint in America attending fancy celeb parties and beginning her overseas career, Cheryl Cole clearly felt she was above pushing trollies

Cheryl Cole arrives back in the UK at Heathrow airport

We are only kidding of course, we’re absolutely loving the fact she found one of those Virgin Air Hostess’s of the telly to push her luggage for her, it’s always glamorous when Cheryl’s involved!

The WAG spent last week over in the US meeting with TV exec’s and attending a very star studded Grammy Awards after party, in order to launch a career in the sates.

Cheryl best not get to involved in her American dream though, because she has the Brit Awards coming up and (literally) a mountain to climb in a couple of weeks, phew it must be tough being Cheryl Cole!

Charlotte Church Gives Birth To A Baby Boy.

January 12, 2009

Charlotte Church was celebrating last night after giving birth to a baby boy at her home in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Charlotte Church had her gorgeous rugby star partner, Gavin Henson, at her side for the birth of their 7Ib 5oz son, who is yet to be named.

Despite being together for four years and having two beautiful children the couple are said not to have any plans to marry any time soon. I don’t blame Charlotte, after all, I’m sure she will be busy enough changing nappies and dealing with lack of sleep to be bothered by any extra hassle of arranging a wedding.

Mother and baby are said to be doing well and we wish them well.

Ronaldo escapes injury in horror smash

January 8, 2009

LONDON (AFP) – Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo escaped unscathed Thursday from a car crash that left his Ferrari a mangled wreck, and will be fit to play in Sunday’s Premier League showdown with Chelsea.

His luxury sports car collided with a roadside barrier in a tunnel near Manchester airport as he was driving to training on Thursday morning.

A photographer who arrived at the scene shortly afterwards described the Portugal winger’s car as a "terrible mess" but Greater Manchester Police said no one had been injured.

"Officers attended and discovered a Ferrari had collided with a barrier," a statement said. "No one is believed to have been injured."

A spokeswoman for United said the club’s star player had not required treatment for shock or any other injuries.

"Cristiano is fine," the spokeswoman said. "It was on his way to training. He did not receive any treatment. He has trained this morning with the team and is ok."

The Portugal international played as a second-half substitute in United’s 1-0 defeat away to Derby County in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final on Wednesday.

Barring any delayed reaction to Friday’s crash, he will be back in the starting line-up for Sunday’s match at Old Trafford as United seek to overcome one of their major rivals in the battle to retain the Premier League trophy.

Tevez determined to fight for Man Utd future

January 2, 2009

MANCHESTER, England (AFP) – Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez insists he is determined to stay at Old Trafford on a permanent basis.

Tevez is in the second year of a loan deal with the Premier League champions but that agreement expires at the end of the season and United are yet to offer the Argentina star a full-time contract.

The 24-year-old has been reduced to a bit-part role this season following the close-season arrival of Dimitar Berbatov, fuelling reports that he is ready to leave England.

But the former West Ham player is confident he will remain with Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

"I am not preoccupied about my future," Tevez told the Daily Mail. "My instincts are to stay with the club and in the next week or so I think there will be more contact with regards to sorting out my contract. That is what we've been told.

"My agent is in touch with United all the time and he tells me that everything is very positive now. So it is up to the club.

"Other clubs have asked about me but I see my future at United."

With Real Madrid believed to be ready to pay the 32 million pounds transfer fee required to sign Tevez, it would be easy for him to quit but the forward is determined to fight for his place.

"Some people say that 32 million pounds is high but I cannot comment on that. Those are the figures that were agreed at the start. I am not responsible," Tevez said.

"It has been a complicated season for me, there is no point denying that. I have not been able to get as many minutes on the field as I would like because the quality of the forwards at the club is incredible.

"It is not easy for forwards to get into this team and I have suffered. But that does not make me want to leave. I have no urge to run away."
