Ancelotti: Chelsea is not Mourinho’s team
January 3, 2010

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti says Jose Mourinho is wrong to speak about Chelsea as though he owns the team. Mourinho, now manager of Inter Milan, is preparing to face his former side in the UEFA Champions League at the last 16 stage.
The Portuguese tactician coached Chelsea for more than three years and enjoyed success as Blues manager before being sacked in 2007.
Since his departure from Stamford Bridge he has used the term ‘my Chelsea’ but Ancelotti has reminded the former Chelsea manager that it is Roman Abramovich who owns the team.
“It’s not true. It’s not his team. It’s the team of Roman Abramovich,” said Ancelotti.
“It’s not mine, it’s Roman Abramovich’s. Mourinho had the honour to train this club and I do too. This team is Roman Abramovich’s team.”
Avram Grant, Luiz Felipe Scolari and Guus Hiddink have all had spells at the Chelsea helm since Mourinho left but Ancelotti is not concerned by the quick turnover of managers in West London.
“Now is the time (for Chelsea to stick with a manager),” said the former AC Milan coach.
“Pressure is normal when you do this job and I am not afraid of pressure. Here it is different, there is less pressure than the last year in Milan for me.”

CSKA Moscow signs VVV Venlo´s Honda
January 1, 2010

CSKA Moscow have acquired Japan international Keisuke Honda from VVV Venlo, as the Russian giants look to boost their squad ahead of the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League, according to the latest reports.
The 23-year-old midfielder signed an estimated nine-million-euro (12.9-million-dollar), four-year contract, Jiji Press and other news media said.
In a posting on his web site, Honda said Thursday: “I would not go if there was even one percent of doubt inside me.”
Known as a dead-ball specialist with a tough physical presence, Honda has scored 24 goals in 67 games for Venlo since joining the Dutch outfit in January 2008, following four seasons with J-League side Nagoya Grampus.
He has also scored three goals in 10 games for Japan since making his international debut in June 2008 during World Cup qualifying.
Dutch giants PSV and Ajax were seen as among the most likely buyers of the Japanese star, who had also previously suggested Liverpool was interested in him.

Mourinho “unmoved” after drawing Chelsea
December 19, 2009

Jose Mourinho says he is “unmoved” after his Inter side drew Chelsea in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. Mourinho had a successful stint as manager at Chelsea before leaving Stamford Bridge and landing in Milan to coach Inter Milan.
With Mourinho leaving Chelsea on a low note after continuous issues with owner Roman Abramovich, many had expected the Portuguese tactician to be eagerly anticipating a chance to get one back at his former employers.
However, Mourinho said he is “unmoved” at the news that he will face Chelsea.
“I don’t have much to say,” said the Portuguese coach, who led the London side to the 2005 and 2006 Premier League titles.
“There are more than two months to go and we have many matches to pay before.
“All the things that you can say are no different. It’s the same story as always. (They are) an important opponent, a difficult opponent, an opponent we know.
“Two matches that are expected to be evenly balanced, a tie that is expected to go all the way. Nothing special. OK, they are my former team, my former players, my former fans and my former
stadium.
“It’s all ‘former’. As a professional, I look at the game no differently than I would against Manchester United, Arsenal or another team”, concluded Mourinho.

Juventus dismiss Hiddink link
December 19, 2009

Serie A giants Juventus have denied reports suggesting that the troubled club have approached Dutch coach Guus Hiddink as an ideal replacement for coach Ciro Ferrara.
The former PSV and Chelsea manager is set to become a free agent once his contract as head coach of Russia’s national team expires next summer, fueling rumours that he could head to Turin.
But it now appears, that Juventus have made it clear, through a statement on their official site, that they are not looking to replace Ferrara.
A statement from Juventus read: “Juventus denies reports coming from England of a possible interest for Guus Hiddink. The club has never considered any other coach because Ciro Ferrara has our full backing and is at the centre of our sporting project.”
The Italian club have been struggling of late, slipping to third place in Serie A and getting knocked out of the UEFA Champions League earlier this month after a 4-1 humiliation by Bayern Munich

Barry urges City for a response
December 18, 2009

Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has insisted that City will improve against Sunderland on the weekend, after a disastrous 3-0 mid-week defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.
While, City were beaten 3-0 at White Hart Lane on Wednesday against Spurs, they still have the chance to hit back immediately when the Black Cats travel to Eastlands on Saturday.
Two goals from Niko Kranjcar and an effort from Jermain Defoe swept Mark Hughes’ team aside at the Lane, and Barry admits it was a poor performance.
However, the England international expects the team to right the wrongs they committed against Spurs.
“We’ve only got a couple of days to put it right, but we want to repay the fans that came down to Spurs and put a good performance in for them,” he said.
“It’s obviously very disappointing, because I thought in the first half an hour we played some really good football and there was nothing in the game.
“But once they scored we really did not create anything until the last 20 minutes.
“We are very disappointed and we are really hurting in the changing room, and the best thing we can do is try to put it right on Saturday.
“We knew that the first goal would be important, with them being at home their confidence was bound to grow.
“They had looked a bit nervous early on and if we had gone in front it could have been a different story.
“Shay (Given) had not had too many saves to make, we played some good stuff at times and got some shots away.
“We were also a bit unlucky with a couple of offsides, but there are not too many positives to take and plenty of things to put right.”
Following the defeat, City go four points behind Spurs with a game in hand as the race for a much-coveted UEFA Champions League place hots up.

Kanoute eyes Lyon meeting
December 11, 2009

Sevilla’s Frederic Kanoute says he is hoping his club draws Lyon in the second round of the UEFA Champions League.
The former African Footballer of the Year began his career with the French giants in 1997. And when asked which team he would rather face in the last 16 draw, Kanoute said he wants to play against Lyon.
“I want to play Olympique Lyon,” said the 32-year-old striker.
Kanoute played with West Ham before moving to Tottenham. The Mali international currently plays in the Spanish La Liga side Sevilla.
“I have no fear of a French club. For me it would allow me to go home and to play at a venue where I began my football career.”
Meanwhile, Kanoute’s teammate, Ivica Dragutinovic is hoping Sevilla will play Russia’s CSKA Moscow in the knockout stages.
“For me the best team to play would be CSKA Moscow,” he said.
“In February they will be in their pre-season and that could prove to be an advantage for the other team.”
The draw for the last 16 of the Champions League will take place on December 18.

Mourinho plays down axe rumors
December 11, 2009

Jose Mourinho has denied rumors suggesting he could be about to leave Inter Milan
Reports had suggested that the Portuguese coach was set to get sacked had Inter failed to reach the Knockout Stages of the Champions League.
However, the reigning Serie A champions secured their spot in the UEFA Champions League round of sixteen on Wednesday night with a 2-0 victory over Rubin Kazan in Giuseppe Meazza.
Although the media had speculated that Mourinho could be relieved from his duties by Inter, the former Chelsea boss denies receiving any kind of ultimatum by the club’s board.
“No-one at Inter has said anything to me, not before the game and not after it,” Mourinho said following the Rubin win.
“Journalists don’t make decisions, ex-players don’t make decisions and even if important people within the club who do make decisions said something to me, it wouldn’t be a problem.”
Mourinho has re-stated that he does not fear over his future as he can find a job in a week should Inter decide to fire him.
“I’m a calm coach because when a coach leaves a club it’s diffcult for him to find a job, but if I leave Inter I’ll be in demand. I can’t say I’d choose exactly where I’d go, but almost.”
Mourinho feels he has been treated unfairly in the Italian media as of late and has questioned those criticizing him.
“I thought that results mattered in Italy but in fact that’s not the case given that a team which won the title, is top of the league and has qualified from a Champions League group containing the holders is still being criticized,” he said.

Pellegrini: Real Madrid deserved a win over Milan
November 4, 2009

Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini believes his side deserved more from last night’s 1-1 UEFA Champions League draw at AC Milan.
The coach stuck with the same team he utilized against Getafe since they had a good attitude, which he believed would fetch them victory against the Rossoneri. Pellegrini claims, besides the penalty Milan didn’t have many chances; however he also refused to blame the dubious penalty for their failure to collect all three points.
“I feel comfortable with the team’s attitude. One point does not offer me anything special or new,” said Pellegrini when asked if the result made him feel more secure.
“We had a good first half with 16 shots on goal. There was only one team on the field. In the second half, they controlled more, but we kept them well back and had chances to take with us the three points, which would have been fair.”
“We did not win because the penalty transformed Milan, aside from that they did not have many chances. The goal is to qualify, but I’m not happy because we wanted to win. I would have liked it had the effort been reflected with a win.”
Madrid midfielder Kaka is satisfied with his team’s performance at San Siro and asserts they can now talk about progressing to the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions league.
“We’ve improved. We had a great first half and we can now speak of progress,” says Kaka, according to AS.
The Brazilian also noted that he was pleased with the reception he got from the Milan fans on his first return to the San Siro since joining Madrid during the summer.
“I am very happy with how I was received at the San Siro. It’s a sign of good things I did here, but now I intend to do it all at Madrid,” he declared.

Barca undecided over Robinho
October 11, 2009

Barcelona are refusing to rule out a big-money bid for Manchester City forward Robinho when the transfer window opens in January.
The Brazil superstar has been consistently linked with a La Liga return ever since his surprise £32.5million switch from Real Madrid in September 2008.
Robinho is currently on the sidelines after injuring his ankle on international duty and he could find it difficult to make a return to Mark Hughes’ starting XI.
Craig Bellamy has been in blistering form in his absence along with Carlos Tevez, while Emmanuel Adebayor is back and playing again for City following suspension.
Barca’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain has refused to confirm the club’s intentions in the New Year, but highlights that the forward would be eligible to be registered for them in the UEFA Champions League.
“He’s a very interesting player and can play in the Champions League,” Begiristain told Sport.

Ranieri front-runner for Roma post
September 2, 2009

Former Juventus and Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri has emerged as the front runner to takeover at Roma after former manager Luciano Spalletti offered his resignation on Tuesday.
Spalletti led the Giallorossi to back-to-back second place finishes in Serie A in 2006/07 and 2007/08 but paid the price for a below par campaign last season.
After a dismal start the Italian managed to steer the club to a 6th placed finish but ultimately missed out on a UEFA Champions League place.
Spalletti decided to call it a day after seeing his side slip to the bottom of the table after losing their opening two games of this season.
Rumours have surfaced that the club from the capital have moved quick to replace the man at the helm with former Juventus boss Ranieri.
However, complications have arisen with the fact that the former Chelsea boss is still under contract with the Turin giants after being sacked with two games of last season remaining.
Ranieri is said to be in talks with Roma regarding his backroom staff but the manager’s lawyer, Mattia Grassani, warned that negotiations were still a long way off.
“For the moment there isn’t the agreement with Roma,” Grassani said.
“There are a few things to clear and are necessary for there to be a few sacrifices from both sides.
“Ranieri is tranquil and he waits the developments of the situation.”
