Portugal: FC Porto held by Belenenses
October 31, 2009

FC Porto risk losing touch with the top of the Portuguese league following a surprise 1-1 draw with Belenenses on Friday.
With only seven points from their first eight games, Belenenses haven’t been able to establish themselves in the top half of the table like they managed to do in recent seasons.
Nevertheless, the Lisbon outfit caused Porto the necessary amount of trouble on Friday and even took the lead through Lima in the first minute after the break.
Fans at O Dragao stadium weren’t left entirely empty-handed however, as Ernesto Farias netted the equalizer three minutes after the hour.
The two leaders, Sporting Braga and Benfica, face each other on Saturday and the winner of that match will extend their lead over third-placed Porto to four points.

Brazil: Atletico Mineiro close on Palmeiras
October 25, 2009

Atletico Mineiro kept championship hopes alive in the Brazilian Serie A, with a 1-0 win over Vitoria on Saturday.
Two days after Palmeiras’ surprising 2-0 defeat by Santo Andre, Atletico Mineiro knew that a win in their game allowed them to reduce the gap with the leaders to just one point.
A goal from Diego Tardelli in the 28th minute was enough for Mineiro to achieve exactly that. Vitoria tried to do something back but weren’t helped by a second yellow card for Leandro late on.
International and Sao Paulo, both currently five points behind Palmeiras, play on Sunday and face Gremio and Santos respectively.

Anderlecht win in Belgium, Standard lose
October 18, 2009

RSC Anderlecht applied pressure on Club Brugge with a 2-0 win over Charleroi on Saturday, while Standard Liege suffered a painful 2-0 defeat at Westerlo.
Anderlecht were never really troubled by Charleroi. Lucas Biglia put the Brussels outfit in the lead after 23 minutes and Romelo Lukaku made it 2-0 with eight minutes to go in the first half.
The result allows Anderlecht to move into first place, although Club Brugge may reconquer the top spot after their home match with Gent on Sunday.
Standard Liege weren’t quite as successful at Westerlo, as Dieter Dekelver scored in the 24th and 33rd minutes to give the hosts a 2-0 victory.

Elen Rives to Receive a BIG Settlement from Lamps
June 3, 2009
It is being reported that Elen Rives has asked for a very large pay-out from ex-Frank Lampard on the basis he was unfaithful… Well I never!
The WAG, former WAG, we’re not sure which, is apparently set to receive 14 million euros from the ‘baller as part of their non-divorce settlement.
Elen is using Frank’s two infedelities as the reason for the high pay-out, which she says left her humiliated.
Sources have also said that Frank and Elen’s relationship became rocky after his Mum Pat, died… Grief can be very testing on a relationship.
14 million does seem awfully steep though, considering the pair weren’t even married, but then again Lampard is a bit of a love-rat and probably deserves it!
Do you think Elen’s being fair??

Ajax suffer painful home defeat by Heerenveen
February 1, 2009
The gap with Dutch leaders AZ Alkmaar and Ajax Amsterdam might grow to nine points this weekend, as Ajax crashed to a 0-1 defeat by SC Heerenveen on Saturday.
Ajax really needed a win to keep pressure on AZ but weren’t helped by a red card for defender Thomas Vermaelen right after the break.
The winning goal came just before the hour mark, with Danijel Pranjic beating keeper Maarten Stekelenburg for 0-1.
